Why we weld in aluminium
Aluminium saves weight, but that is not why we chose it. A note from the hall on hulls, welders and patience.

An aluminium hull is lighter than steel, and that matters for range. It also lets us build the knife-edge decks that give the Stille 41 her line.
Fourteen welders, one hall
Every seam on a Stille hull is welded by hand in our Bergen hall. The same team that welds the plates fairs them, so nobody hands a problem down the line.
It is slower. It is also why our hulls need almost no filler before paint.
